St. Albans, Queens — Police are actively searching for a suspect after a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot during a violent altercation at Roy Wilkins Park on Thursday evening, authorities confirmed.

The victim, identified as Jaden Pierre, was killed around 6:15 p.m. during a large fight that broke out on a basketball court inside the park. According to police, several teens were involved in the confrontation before a single gunshot was fired, striking the victim in the chest. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.

Police said the group of young people scattered immediately after the shooting, and the gunman remains at large. Officers continued patrolling the park Friday as investigators reviewed cellphone video and other evidence to identify the suspect.

Community members described Pierre as a friendly and energetic teenager. His family, including a grieving aunt, remembered him as a “sweet kid” who was well-liked by those around him.

Local officials also responded to the tragedy. Donovan Richards expressed condolences, calling the loss “indescribable” and extending sympathy to the victim’s family, friends, and school community.

Authorities believe the incident may be gang-related, though the motive has not been officially confirmed. No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

The deadly shooting comes less than 24 hours after another 15-year-old was killed in a separate incident at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, raising fresh concerns about youth violence across the region.
