Opelika, Alabama — Authorities are actively investigating an early morning shooting incident outside Wild Wing Cafe on Capps Way that resulted in a police pursuit, firearm recovery, and multiple arrests on Friday, April 17, 2026.
Shots Fired Outside Restaurant
According to the Opelika Police Department, officers responded to multiple emergency calls around 1:41 a.m. reporting a large altercation and gunfire outside the popular restaurant located at 3040 Capps Way.
Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle speeding away from the scene, prompting an immediate attempt to initiate a traffic stop. The driver refused to comply, leading to a brief pursuit.
Police Pursuit on Interstate 85
The chase ended on Interstate 85 near mile marker 61, where officers detained five individuals for questioning.
During the same timeframe, a gunshot victim arrived at East Alabama Medical Center seeking treatment. The individual was later identified and interviewed by investigators but declined to press charges.
Evidence Recovered at Scene
Investigators discovered a red Dodge Charger in the Wild Wing Cafe parking lot riddled with bullet holes. Authorities confirmed the vehicle was registered to the shooting victim.
Additionally, officers recovered a firearm along Interstate 85 near mile marker 60, which is believed to have been discarded from the fleeing vehicle during the pursuit.
Arrests and Charges
Following the investigation, three of the five detained individuals were charged:
- Devante Goodman, 28, Auburn — Felony attempting to elude
- Ashton Williams, 19, Auburn — Minor consumption of alcohol
- Stephen Harris, 26, Auburn — Outstanding warrant (Lee County Sheriff’s Office)
