Suspect Arrested, Brother Wanted in Deadly Sandy Springs Apartment Shooting

A man has been arrested and his brother remains wanted following a fatal shooting at the Northridge Apartments in Sandy Springs, Georgia, where a 29-year-old man was killed during a confrontation in the parking lot Tuesday night.

Authorities say the incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. off Roswell Road, leading to a large police response and an overnight investigation.

Shooting at Northridge Apartments Turns Deadly

According to Sandy Springs police, the victim, identified as 29-year-old Justin Tucker, was involved in an altercation with two brothers when he was shot multiple times. Investigators believe Tucker was trying to leave the scene and had called an Uber, but was shot as the vehicle arrived.

Police have arrested Derrick Washington in connection with the shooting. His brother, Mason Washington, is still at large and is now the subject of an active manhunt.

Charges Filed Against Both Brothers

Authorities confirmed that both Derrick and Mason Washington are facing serious charges, including:

  • Malice murder
  • Felony murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime

Police have warned the public not to approach Mason Washington if seen, urging anyone with information to call 911 immediately.

Large Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

The scene was heavily secured Tuesday night as detectives, K-9 units, drones, and helicopters searched the area. Residents reported being temporarily unable to enter or leave their apartments while investigators processed evidence.

Police later recovered firearms during the investigation and continued tracking down suspects throughout the night.

Residents of the apartment complex described growing concern following the shooting. One tenant said the incident has changed their sense of safety in the area, noting fears about violence occurring in what they previously considered a secure community.
