Shot Fired in Washington DC’s Navy Yard Prompts Police Search for Suspect
Washington, D.C. – A police investigation is underway after a reported gunfire incident in the Navy Yard neighborhood late Thursday night, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Officers responded around 10:45 p.m. to the 1000 block of 2nd Street Southeast after reports of a single shot fired in the area. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or property damage were reported following the incident.
MPD stated that no arrests have been made as the search for a suspect continues. The situation prompted a coordinated response, with assistance from the United States Capitol Police, who were already nearby at the time of the call.
Officials clarified that the Capitol Police involvement was limited to assisting MPD and confirmed that no members of Congress were involved in the incident.
The Navy Yard area, a busy waterfront district known for restaurants, nightlife, and residential buildings, has seen increased police attention in recent months amid broader concerns about youth-related disturbances in parts of the city.
