Deadliest School Shooting in Turkey Leaves 22 Dead in Kahramanmaraş Province

A tragic school shooting on 15 April 2026 at Ayser Çalık Secondary School in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş Province, Turkey, has left at least 22 people dead and 12 others injured, marking the deadliest school shooting in the country’s history.

According to authorities, a 14-year-old student, İsa Aras Mersinli, opened fire inside the school, killing 10 people and injuring 12 others before being stopped by school staff. Reports indicate that he was later injured during the intervention and died from blood loss.

The attack occurred just 28 hours after another school shooting incident in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa Province, raising national concerns over school security and youth violence.

Emergency services and law enforcement quickly secured the area, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to the attack. Turkish officials have described the incident as a national tragedy and pledged a full review of school safety measures.
